Karl Ruberl , later Charles Ruberl (born October 3, 1880 in Vienna , † December 12, 1966 in New York ) was an Austrian- US-American swimmer.

Ruberl was born in Vienna and swam for Austria Wien . In 1897 he won the German championship title over 100 meters breast. Ruberl took part in the Olympic Games in 1900 for Austria . He took part in three competitions, all of which were over 200 m. He won the silver medal in the backstroke and the bronze medal in the freestyle. He also took fourth place in obstacle swimming.

After the Olympic Games, he immigrated to the United States in 1900 and became an American citizen four years later. He changed his name to Charles Ruberl and continued swimming in his adopted home New York. He swam for the New York Athletic Club and was able to swim numerous American records. After his career, he went into banking and founded the bank Bainbridge, Ryan & Ruberl , which was also active on the New York Stock Exchange. Ruberl left the banking business before the New York stock market crash.

Ruberl was also an avid musician and played violin and piano at the Brooklyn Academy of Music . He lived in New York City until his death. He was also friends with the swimmer Otto Wahle , who also came from Austria and also emigrated to the United States.
