Otto Weigmann

Otto Albrecht Weigmann (born May 13, 1873 in Lauf an der Pegnitz , † February 10, 1940 in Munich ) was a German art historian .

Life

Otto Weigmann was the son of the hops wholesaler and commercial advisor Georg Weigmann. He attended the old grammar school in Nuremberg from 1882 to 1891 . He then studied law in Munich and Berlin and was awarded a Dr. jur. PhD. He then studied art history in Munich, Berlin and Heidelberg as well as two semesters of architecture at the TH Charlottenburg . In 1901 he was in Munich at Berthold Riehl Dr. phil. PhD. On November 4, 1901, he became a scientific assistant, a month later an assistant at the graphic collection in Munich, in April 1907 he was appointed curator there. In 1912 he withdrew from the collection at his own request because he had fallen out with the then director Heinrich Pallmann about his management of the collection. From January 1, 1918 until his retirement on November 1, 1937, he was Pallmann's successor, director of the graphic collection

On May 30, 1937 he became an honorary citizen of his hometown Lauf.
