Heinrich Pallmann

Heinrich Pallmann (born August 14, 1849 in Stierhöfstetten, Oberscheinfeld , Middle Franconia ; † July 4, 1922 in Munich ) was a German art historian .

Life

The son of a forester attended high school in Ansbach and then studied in Munich . Due to financial difficulties he had to break off his studies and became an antiquarian in Munich . He then moved to the Karl Theodor Völcker publishing house in Frankfurt, where he managed the antiquarian bookshop. In 1885 he received his doctorate from the University of Leipzig . In 1885/86 he was initially administrative clerk at the Free German Hochstift , in 1886 he became a member of the administrative committee.

In October 1888 he became librarian and administrator of the copper engraving cabinet at the Städel Art Institute . In 1891 he took over the management of the Städel art collection together with Heinrich Weizsäcker , he remained responsible for the library and the copper engraving collection. On May 1, 1895, he moved to the copper engraving and hand drawing collection in Munich. He was its director from April 16, 1904 until his retirement on May 1, 1917. He implemented a comprehensive reorganization of the collection and cataloging of its holdings; In 1905 the collection was renamed "Königliche Graphische Sammlung" (today: Staatliche Graphische Sammlung ).
