Otto Weu

Otto Weu (* 1903 in Wotenick , † 1979 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German music teacher and church musician .

Life

Otto Weu was born in Wotenick in 1903 . He studied church music in Berlin and in 1922 got his first job as organist at the St. Ulrich Church concert hall in Halle (Saale) . In 1936 he went back to northern Germany and in 1936 became a music teacher and organist at the Nikolaikirche Stralsund .

In 1939, the Halle city council appointed him choir director of the Stadtsingechor zu Halle and music teacher of the Francke Foundations in Halle . Weu led the third oldest boys' choir in Germany through the difficult times of National Socialism until he was called up for military service in 1943. After the end of the Second World War, he resumed his school service as a music teacher for the Francke Foundations and finally retired in 1967.

From 1951 to 1967 Weu was also part-time cantor of the market church of St. Marien and St. Liebfrauen.

Otto Weu also appeared as leader of various Halle choirs as well as harpsichordist and solo repetitor .
