Otto Winter (politician)

Otto Winter (born October 19, 1901 in Vienna ; † September 17, 1973 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and chamber director. From 1959 to 1966 he was a member of the Austrian National Council .

Life

After primary school, Winter attended a secondary school and, after graduating from high school, studied law and political science at the University of Vienna . Winter received his doctorate in 1927. Winter spent his internship in the Chamber of Labor and Employees and between 1927 and 1938 he was secretary of the Tyrol Chamber of Labor . After the National Socialists came to power , Winter was relieved of his position and was unemployed from 1938. He then became an employee in his wife's audit office. After the Second World War, Winter returned to the Tyrolean Chamber of Labor in 1946 and became first secretary in 1947. Later he took over the function of Chamber Office Director.

From 1953 to 1959, Winter was politically active as a local councilor and city councilor in Innsbruck; he was also a member of the main committee of the Austrian Association of Cities and, from 1950, regional chairman of the Association of Social Democratic Academics . Between June 9, 1959 and March 30, 1966, he represented the SPÖ in the National Council.

He also held the office of President of the Tyrolean Football Association from 1947 .

In 1973 he was awarded the Ring of Honor by the City of Innsbruck. In 1980 Otto-Winter-Straße in the Mühlau district was named after him.
