Ouargaye is a city and a department in Burkina Faso , capital of the province of Koulpélogo in the Center-Est region. The city is the center of the Yaama, an ethnic group related to the Mossi , and has 34,288 inhabitants in the five sectors of the main town and the 12 villages surrounding it. Ouargaye lies on the Precambrian granite pedestal , which was formed more than two billion years ago and makes up three quarters of the country's area and forms part of the central section of the Upper Guinea threshold. The relief of this flat undulating plateau is characterized by depressions, knolls, hills and isolated island mountains , which were formed in the Birrimia , are mostly covered by laterite armor and show granite intrusions . Ouargaye is about 240 km from the country's capital.
