The Oued Siflaou arises a few kilometers south-east of Chefchaouen in the center of the Rif Mountains from the union of two source streams - which are water-bearing especially after heavy rainfall - each at an altitude of about 1600 meters above sea level. d. M arise on the western flank of Jbel Tassouka. At first it flows a short distance to the west, then turns to the northeast, and finally flows into the Mediterranean near the small town of Oued Laou .

Tributaries and reservoir

The Oued Laou has only a few smaller tributaries, but they also only carry water at times. In its upper reaches, northwest of Chefchaouen, the river is dammed in the Barrage d'Ali Thelat, which has a maximum capacity of 30 million cubic meters, for irrigation purposes and to generate electricity.
