Ousman Badjie (General)
Ousman Badjie (born November 15, 1967 in Sibanor ) is Lieutenant General in the West African state of Gambia . He was commander in chief of the Gambian armed forces .
Life
After attending elementary school from 1976 to 1982, Badjie went to Nusrat High School. He then joined the Gambia National Army on January 4, 1987 . In November 1995 he reached the rank of Second Lieutenant .
Major Badjie followed in July 2012, Lieutenant General Masaneh Kinteh in the function of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces ( English Chief of Defense Forces and of the Army of the Gambia, CDS ), he was previously deputy Kinteh.
Badjie received particular attention in the crisis following the 2016 presidential elections in Gambia , in which incumbent President Yahya Jammeh lost the majority to Adama Barrow and challenged the validity of the election. Immediately after the results of the election were announced in December, he initially sided with Barrow, and in December expressed his loyalty to Jammeh. When the armed forces of the West African Economic Community (ECOWAS) intervened in Gambia with a mandate from the UN , he emphasized that his troops would not fight against ECOWAS and, on the contrary, would receive them kindly.
After the change of government, Badjie initially remained Chief of Defense Forces, but was replaced in late February 2017 by Lieutenant General Kinteh as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. He later switched to the diplomatic service and represented Gambia in Cuba . He held this office until February, when he was replaced by Kujejatou Manneh .
