Masaneh Kinteh (2011)

Masaneh Nyuku Kinteh (born August 13, 1968 in Sankwia ) is Lieutenant General in the West African state of Gambia . From February 2017 he has been Commander in Chief of the Gambian Armed Forces ( Chief of Defense Forces and of the Army of the Gambia; also Chief of Defense Staff, CDS ). He was also active as an ambassador for his country.

Life

Kinteh studied in the UK, where he completed his master’s degree, and then worked as a teacher from 1988 to 1990. His military career began in November 1990 when he passed British Army training for the selection of potential officer cadets. Kinteh officially joined the Gambian armed forces on March 15, 1991 and rose the ranks of officers. As Acting Chief of Staff of the Gambian Army ( Chief of Staff of the Gambian Army ), he was raised in December 2004 after the current incumbent Assan Sarr was appointed to the position of Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces (CDS). Kinteh was promoted to Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces by President Yahya Jammeh in 2009 . After the incumbent CDS, Lang Tombong Tamba , was removed from office on October 9, 2009, Kinteh took his position as commander in chief of the armed forces. Tamba was later sentenced to death on charges of treason. At the same time, Jammeh made Yankuba Drammeh Kinteh's deputy and was removed from this post shortly thereafter.

On July 6, 2012, Kinteh was removed from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Jammeh Armed Forces after questioning him the week before by the Gambian intelligence agency, the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). Nothing was made public about the reasons for the dismissal; he was followed by Kinteh's deputy, Ousman Badjie . Kinteh was to get a post in the international service. There was irritation in the media as to whether his appointment to the foreign service was Gambian ambassador to Tunisia or ambassador to Cuba. Finally, on August 2, 2012, Kinteh was appointed Deputy Gambian Ambassador for the Mission in Cuba , and later he was Head of the Mission in Cuba.

In December 2016, several Gambian diplomats spoke out in favor of the newly elected President Adama Barrow , including Kinteh, and President Yahya Jammeh then dismissed all diplomats on January 10, 2017. The newly elected President Adama Barrow elected Kinteh as his military advisor on January 25, 2017, shortly after taking office.

Ousman Badjie initially remained in office after the change of government until he was replaced by Lieutenant General Kinteh in the function of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces at the end of February 2017.

On March 11, 2020 it was published that Lieutenant General Masanneh N. Kinteh had been dismissed from service with effect from March 5, but no official reason was given. His former Deputy Major General Yankuba A. Drammeh was installed as the new CDS. Kinte's release comes two days after returning from a trip to the United Nations in New York. The dismissal also comes amid allegations of corruption and nepotism on the part of Kinteh. He has been accused of having traveled to New York with a delegation of nine to eat over 1.5 million dalasi. According to the army spokesman, Kinteh has been transferred to the foreign service.
