Owain Wan

Owain Wan (Eng. Owain the weak, actually Owain ap Caradog) († after 1140) was a Welsh prince of Gwent . He was the eldest son of Caradog ap Gruffydd , the last Welsh king of Gwent.

After the death of his father, who fell in battle against the Norman conquerors in 1081 , he was only able to rule in the mountains of Gwynllŵg , while the lower regions on the coast of Robert Fitzhamon and the region on the lower reaches of the River Usk from Robert de Chandos was captured. Chandos built Caerleon Castle to protect his conquests .

His daughter Angharad married Seisyll ap Dyfnwal , the prince of Upper Gwent. His sons Morgan and Iorwerth were able to recapture Caerleon Castle and part of their grandfather's realm and established the Welsh rule of Caerleon , which was not finally occupied by the English until 1270.
