The Owen Fault Zone is a transform fault in the Indian Ocean . It runs in a northeast-southwest direction off the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula and represents the tectonic boundary between the Arab and Indian plates and, at its southern end, the African plate . The fault is the eastern end point of the Aden Ridge and the western end point of the Carlsberg ridge , the plate boundaries between the Arab or Indian plate and the African plate, which connect here. The triple point between these three plates is also known as the Aden-Owen-Carlsberg triple point .

In the area of ​​the Owen fracture zone, especially in the area of ​​the triple point, there are repeated moderate seaquakes , such as B. on July 19, 2014 with a magnitude of 6.0.

The Owen Fracture Zone was named after the HMS Owen , a Royal Navy frigate used as a research ship , which it discovered in 1963.
