Owen Le Franc Beck (born May 31, 1976 in Negril , Jamaica ) is a Jamaican heavyweight boxer. His nickname is What the Heck . He is under contract with the American promoter Don King . His son Carl King is his manager.

Professional career

Beck began his professional career in 1998. After 24 successful professional fights against mostly unknown opponents (including Taurus Sykes), despite doubts about his athletic qualification, he got the opportunity on February 5, 2005 , in an elimination battle for the first rankings of the WBC and IBF associations against the to compete with Don King under contract Monte Barrett and acquire the right to a title fight against the world champions of these associations by winning.

However, Beck lost to technical knockout in the ninth round.

In his next fight on September 3, 2005 , he suffered another defeat against 35-year-old Ray Austin, who was also looked after by Don King . This time he was just defeated on points.

On January 7, 2006 , he won against the light heavyweight Darnell Wilson.

Although Owen Beck has not yet defeated a boxer who was in the top 100 in independent rankings at the time of the fight, but lost twice to such opponents, he was recognized by WBA title holder Nikolai Valujew and his promoter Wilfried Sauerland as a worthy challenger. So you signed him as an opponent for Valuev's first voluntary title defense on June 3, 2006 in Hanover. He lost the fight, however, by technical knockout in the third round.
