Owen Thomas Jones

Owen Thomas Jones (born April 16, 1878 in Beulah, Cardiganshire , † May 5, 1967 ) was a British geologist of Welsh origin who was particularly concerned with the geology of Wales .

Jones studied physics at University College of Aberystwyth with the completion in 1900 and science with a focus on Geology at Trinity College of Cambridge University with the degree in 1902. From 1903, he was at the British Geological Survey , where he mapped especially in Wales. In 1910 he became the first professor of geology at Aberystwyth and in 1913 he became a professor at Manchester University . 1930 to 1943 he was Woodwardian Professor of Geology at Cambridge University.

In 1926 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society , whose Royal Medal he received in 1956. In 1926 he received the Lyell Medal and in 1945 the Wollaston Medal .
