The majority of the residents are of Russian nationality. The village has a small hydroelectric power station with which it can meet its electricity needs and an airfield with a grass runway. It is used irregularly for tourist flights. Various barrows and the ruins of a medieval fortress are located near Pschu . The nearby mountain Inal-kuba (also Pschu-Nycha ) is one of the seven sacred mountains of the Abkhazians .

In the summer of 1942 the Wehrmacht occupied the village. She had previously crossed the border into Georgia, but had to withdraw after a few days.
