Pál Járdányi

Pál Járdányi , first name Pál Paulovics , (born January 30, 1920 in Budapest , † July 29, 1966 there ) was a Hungarian composer and music teacher.

Járdányi's parents, the archaeologist István Paulovics and the teacher Maria Eperjessy were both avid amateur musicians. Járdányi also had a sister named Márta. When he was 18 years old, his father had his surname Magyarized in Járdányi .

During his studies at the Budapest Conservatory he was a student of Zoltán Kodály . He then worked as a music critic and was appointed professor at the Budapest Conservatory in 1946. In addition to his teaching activities, he was also active as a composer. His style is based on that of his teacher Kodály. Among other things, he created a symphony , a rhapsody , a concerto for harp and chamber orchestra, a concertino and various works for chamber music.

A music school in Budapest now bears his name.
