Péter Adler (doctor)

Péter Adler (born June 25, 1910 in Makó ; † August 3, 1983 in Debrecen ) was a Hungarian dentist and dental caries researcher .

life and work

His parents were Arthur and Ilona Adler. From 1920 to 1928 Adler was a student at the József Attila grammar school in Makó. In 1934 he obtained his general medical diploma in Vienna. Between 1931 and 1936 he worked at the Vienna Physiological Institute. From 1934 to 1936 he completed his dental training at the University of Vienna and became a dentist in 1936. From 1936 to 1938 he worked in the field of dentistry at the General Polyclinic in Vienna. Between 1938 and 1940 he worked in the hospital in Szentes . Between 1942 and 1945, during the Second World War, he was called up for labor service. From 1945 he became assistant professor at the Dental Clinic in Debrecen, then adjunct professor, clinical doctor and finally associate professor. In 1946 he became a private lecturer and department head, in 1953 he became a professor. Between 1953 and 1959 he was also director of the library. Between 1976 and 1980 he was editor-in-chief of the Dentist Review.

In 1979 he retired from operational activities and headed the clinic in Debrecen.

Adler's area of ​​research was the epidemiology of tooth decay and the effect of fluorine in preventing this dental disease. Adler had published more than 300 articles on this subject. Adler had been a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina since 1969 .
