Póvoa de Penela is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district of Penedono . It has 325 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011). Translated into German, the community means people of the peninsula .

history

The underlying village was founded on September 12, 1514 by Manueline. It belonged to Trevões County until October 24, 1855, when the residents died out or moved away. It was not until September 7, 1895 that people settled again in the village, which now became part of the municipality of São João da Pesqueira. The residents built a church and a rectory and appointed a pastor . The Catholic parish is parish in the diocese of Lamego and bears the name Santa Margarida .
