Life

Freestyle went to school in New York and studied at the American University in Istanbul . She holds a doctorate in literature and theater studies from the Sorbonne in Paris . Her literary character was also shaped by her mother, İsmet Kür , who, in addition to her work as a teacher and journalist, was also an excellent expert on Turkish literature and herself an author of children's books.

Pınar Kür has regularly published her works since 1971. At first it was short stories that appeared in literary magazines. Her first, politically explosive novel Yarin Yarin (Morgen, Morgen) , which deals with the military takeover of March 12, 1971 , was published in 1976. The following three novels also dealt with explosive topics and were the subject of court hearings. However, the author was acquitted of the allegations, which were mostly made of "sexual permissiveness" in her texts.

Her novels often address the power structures of society, in particular the power relationship between men and women, she also repeatedly dealt with the military takeovers of power that had taken place in Turkey and she dealt with the attitude of intellectuals who were quickly ready for their careers to abandon their “ideals” and even betray their comrades. Freestyle also takes on simpler topics from the everyday life of average people on a very high literary level.
