Patricia Nead Elrod (* 1954 in Texas ; mostly PN Elrod ) is an American author of fantasy literature, mainly vampire novels .

Vampire Files

PN Elrod has written more than 20 novels and as many short stories. She began her career as a writer in 1990 with the Vampire Files , a kind of vampire detective crime thriller, with the journalist Jack Fleming, who is murdered and wakes up as a vampire and goes in search of his murderer. A private detective helps him with this and also in finding his former girlfriend, with whom he exchanged his blood so that he could become a vampire after his death. The series, which now comprises 11 books, is set in Chicago in the 1930s.

Jonathan Barrett

In 1993 she began the series about Jonathan Barrett, the gentleman vampire . The four-volume series takes place during the American Revolution. Jonathan Barrett is killed in the war and wakes up as a vampire. His family lives on Long Island and is loyal, that is, loyal to the British royal family. The war is thus told from a new and interesting point of view (for the American).

The vampires at Elrod

Elrod draws on many old elements of the vampire, such as: B. dematerialization, hypnosis skills, weakening of skills on water. However, it also changes the vampire myth somewhat. Her vulnerability to stakes is explained by the material - wood makes her vampires vulnerable, regardless of whether it is hit in the heart or on the head.

The transformation into a vampire does not take place through biting or immediately after the blood swap - only after the occurrence of death does it become clear whether the transformation was successful. Since it is unsuccessful in most cases - as if most people were immune to it - those who are turned into vampires usually do not hasten their death.

Other books

She wrote three novels with actor Nigel Bennett ( Nick Knight - The Vampire Pop , Legends of Passion ) : Keeper of the King , His Father's Son and Siege Perilous .

She edited the anthology Dracula in London and wrote the novel Quincey Morris, Vampires . Quincey was killed by Dracula in the end . In the story of Elrod, he is reborn as a vampire. Lord Richard also has a brief guest appearance.

Pure horror novels are the Dungeons & Dragons novels with the dark vampire Count Stradh of Zarovich. The novels set in the Ravenloft world even wowed the critics.

With The Adventures of Myhr she wrote a humorous fantasy novel. Half-human and half-cat, Myhr jumps from world to world to announce good news, such as pizza or Beatles karaoke.
