PN menon
PN Menon ( Malayalam : പി.എൻ. മേനോൻ ; * 1928 in Vadakkancherry , Cochin ; † September 9, 2008 in Kochi , Kerala ) was an Indian artist, production designer and film director of the Malayalam films .
Career
After studying at the Trichur School of Art, Menon went to Madras and worked in B. Nagi Reddi's Vauhini studios as a stage painter and set designer. As a freelance artist, he also designed film posters for Tamil , Telugu and Malayalam films around 1960 .
His directorial debut was Rosy (1965) with PJ Anthony , who also wrote the screenplay, in the lead role. PA Backer produced Menon's second film Olavum Theeravum in 1969 . This independent film production based on a script and dialogues by MT Vasudevan Nair is considered the first film by the New Indian Cinema in Kerala; he was also commercially successful. One of his innovations for the Malayalam cinema is the extensive use of outdoor recordings, which, however, was also due to the fact that this film project was not bound to a studio. With Chemparathi (1972), a love and murder story, Menon took up the successful realism of Olavum Theeravum . He worked on this film and also on Gayatri (1973) with Malayalam writer Malayattoor Ramakrishnan . His 1983 film Malamukalile Daivam is also one of the works by Menon that has received praise from domestic film critics. He deals with religious superstition and ignorance in a backward tribal village in the mountains of Kerala.
After a hiatus of more than a decade, his last film, Nerkku Nere , was released in 2004 .
