PQ Phan
PQ Phan , Vietnamese Phan Quang Phục (born 1962 in Da Nẵng , Vietnam) is a Vietnamese composer living in the USA.
Life
Phan first studied architecture. Since 1976, he has been learning piano, composition and orchestration in self-tuition . In 1982 he immigrated to the United States of America and began studying music, which he completed in 1987 with a Bachelor of Music from the University of Southern California , in 1989 with a Master of Music and in 1993 with a Doctor of Musical Arts in composition from the University of Michigan . He also received a master's degree in ethnomusicology from the University of Michigan in 1993 .
He has taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and Cleveland State University . He is currently (as of 2017) Associate Professor of Composition at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington .
In 1997/98 Phan received the Prix de Rome . During his associated stay at the Academy, he completed his 70-minute “Instrumental Opera” for string quartet An Duong Vuong: Submersion in Trust and Betrayal, commissioned by the Kronos Quartet .

Phan composed more than 100 works, including two major operas, a requiem, orchestral works and chamber music.
