Robert Brant (* 2. October 1990 in Saint Paul , Minnesota , USA ) is an American boxer in the middleweight division . Among other things, he is a former WBA - NABA champion and current regular WBA world champion (the current WBA super champion is the Mexican Canelo Álvarez ). He is currently being trained by Adonis Frazier .

Amateur career

Brant started boxing at the age of 16.

In 2009 he became American champion (and defeated Thomas Williams junior, managed by Al Haymon , among others) and took part in the Golden Gloves tournament , where he defeated Jacque Lutz on points in the first fight before he did already in the second fight against Alejandro Canez had to take a point defeat and was eliminated.

The following year Brant took part in that tournament again. This time he defeated Nathan Brinkmann , Andrew Hernandez , Armando Pina , Marcus Browne , Khalib Whitmore and thus won the title.

Professional career

Brant made his professional debut on June 16, 2012 against his compatriot Cheyenne Ziegler with a victory by technical knockout in the 2nd round.

In October 2015, he captured the vacant WBC Continental America Belt when he defeated Louis Rose by majority decision. The following year Brant boxed for the vacant NABA championship against Decarlo Perez and won by classic knockout in round 4. He has been able to defend this belt twice so far.

WBSS

Brant was the only American boxer to represent his home country in the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS for short). On October 27, 2017, he met the German Jürgen Brähmer in the sports and congress hall in Schwerin and lost on points.

Winning the regular WBA world title

On October 20, 2018, Brant boxed against Japan's 2011 runner-up and 2012 Olympic champion Ryōta Murata . The fight took place at MGM Park in Las Vegas . Murata carried the regular world title of the WBA and went into the fight as a big favorite. However, he could not live up to his role and lost clearly and unanimously on points.
