PGO Scooters
PGO ( Chinese 摩特 動力 ) is a scooter brand of Motive Power Industry (MPI) Co., Ltd. ( Chinese 摩特 動力 工業 , Pinyin Mó Tè Dòng Lì Gōng Yè - "[Mote = sound of engine / motive] power industry") from Dacun, Changhua County , Republic of China in Taiwan .
The company was founded in 1964 and started licensed production in 1972 for the well-known Italian Vespa manufacturer Piaggio , from which the abbreviation "PGO" is probably derived. Since 1984 the company has been developing and producing its own scooters. In terms of quality, these products are in the upper mid-range. Engines from 50 cc to 150 cc are available as both two and four-stroke engines. The BigMax , Star and T-Rex models are among the most successful two-wheelers . Current models are the G-Star and Ligero , which is replacing the Comet model. In 1992/1993 they even tried to manufacture a motorcycle and developed the PGO V2 1600cc. A motorcycle, which had a two cylinder 4-stroke V-engine and 1600 cm³ displacement as well as a chain drive. Although the model was also built and sold, it was not successful.
PGO is one of the few companies that manufactures engines in-house, including replicas of the Italian manufacturer Minarelli . Taiwan Tea Company , one of the largest companies in Taiwan, has been behind PGO since 1996 .
Over the years, PGO has managed to clearly differentiate itself from the segment of cheap scooters from the Far East and DIY scooters and is particularly popular in Austria.
PGO also manufactures quads called X-Riders , and from 2005 small buggies up to 500 cm³ were also manufactured. These models are listed at PGO as Buxter and BugRider 250cc and "BugRacer 500cc". The 250 BugRider was available as a single or two-seater. The engines in the 250 and 500 are from Kymco. These are scooter motors to which a reverse gear has been flanged.
