The PGZ95 (alternative name Type 95 ) is a Chinese fully autonomous , all-weather combat anti-aircraft tank that has been manufactured by Norinco since the mid-1990s . Designations of the vehicle in earlier production stages were Type 90-II and Type 90-III .

history

The PGZ95 has been manufactured by the Chinese armaments company Norinco since the mid-1990s . The tank was first spotted at a military parade in Beijing in 1999. It is believed that the Italian SIDAM-25 anti-aircraft tank served as a model, which is also equipped with four 25-mm anti-aircraft guns from the manufacturer Oerlikon Contraves . China presumably received at least one SIDAM-25 tower in the 1980s. China is considering offering an export variant of the vehicle. The PGZ95 has been phased out in favor of the more powerful PGZ09 since the 2010s .

Armament

The anti-aircraft tank is armed with four 25 mm Type 87 automatic cannons, two each to the left and right of the turret. This type of machine cannon is already used in several different variations in the Chinese army . The weapon has a rate of 600 to 800 projectiles per minute. The ammunition supply amounts to 1000 rounds of 25 mm projectiles. The empty magazines are thrown out of the tower. It is possible to use an automatic loading mechanism. Furthermore, the four automatic cannons can fight lightly armored ground targets in addition to air targets.

It is also possible to equip the Type 95 with four QW-2 - short-range surface- to -air missiles , which, like the barrel weapons, are mounted two times on top of each other on the left and right of the turret. This missile type represents the Chinese plagiarism of the Russian shoulder-supported missile type Igla-1 . Like the Russian model, it is infrared-guided. The effective operating altitude ranges from 10 to 3,500 m and the operating range from around 500 to 6000 m. The anti-aircraft missiles are typically used against more distant targets and the 25 mm MK against aircraft and helicopters up to a distance of 2500 meters and a maximum flight altitude of 2000 meters.

The CLC-1 continuous wave radar , which works in the S-band (2.7-3.5 GHz), is located at the rear of the tower . The presumed radar range is 11 kilometers and is optimized to capture low-flying targets. The PGZ95 is also equipped with four smoke grenade launchers on each side of the tower.
