Act

Jost Krippendorf is one of the most important representatives of tourism criticism. In his book "Die Landschaftsfresser" he showed the ecological consequences of alpine tourism. In “Die Ferienmenschen” he explored the question of which factors induce people to go on vacation to an ever greater extent. In “Alpine Blessing Nightmare” he brought the two aforementioned works together. He developed a holistic picture of the modes of action in tourism and drafted a plea for tourism development in harmony with man and nature. His works (especially from the 1980s) are considered the foundations of tourism criticism. In 1977 he was awarded the Columbus Prize of Honor by the Association of German Travel Journalists for his services to a holistic impact in tourism .

In 2003 the Austrian Tourist Association founded the “Jost Krippendorf Prize” with the aim of presenting an annual award for special services to socially and environmentally compatible tourism.
