Paul Jamaine "PJ" Washington Jr. (born August 23,  1998 in Louisville ) is an American basketball player .

career

Washington's parents Sherry and Paul both played basketball at Middle Tennessee State University . He was among the first students to the Texas team Prime Prep Academy , then in Nevada settled Findlay College Prep . For the 2017/18 season, Washington switched to the University of Kentucky , he had decided against further offers from universities such as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas . In two years at the University of Kentucky he was in 72 games on the field and averaged 12.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per encounter. In the 2018/19 game year he was the team's top scorer with 15.2 points per game.

Washington left Kentucky after two years to turn pro and enroll in the NBA draft process  . He already flirted with this step in spring 2018, but then withdrew his draft registration and decided to spend a second year at the university. The Charlotte Hornets selected Washington in twelfth place in the first round.

National team

In June 2015 Washington was part of the US team that competed in the 3-on-3 basketball game of the U18 World Cup . He came in eighth there. With the U18 national team of the United States in the traditional form of play, he won the gold medal at the American Championship for this age group in 2016.
