PLOP (fanzine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

PLOP is the oldest and longest-published comic - Fanzine Germany.

Beginning and publisher

PLOP was published for the first time in 1981 by Heike Anacker until 1988. The first issue was distributed free of charge at the comic exchange day in Cologne-Ehrenfeld . After the short time of two issues by the interim editor Andreas Anger, Bernhard Bollen took over from 1989 to 1993 (or issues # 29 to 38/39). This was followed by Andreas Alt, who had been the editor of the fanzines for the longest time, and was responsible for the magazine from 1994 to 2007 (issues # 40 to 79) before handing over the management to Melchior Condoi (issues # 80 to 85) and limited himself to the role of the "editorial staff". For the anniversary edition for the 30th anniversary of PLOP, Alt took over the edition again. The current editor (since issue 86) is again Bernhard Bollen.

Content and format

Each issue is divided into letters to the editor, reviews and comic contributions; the focus is on comic contributions. A special feature is that each issue can contain comic contributions by professional and semi-professional artists alongside works by beginners. The content of every issue is black and white, the cover also in color. PLOP appears in A5 format three times a year with a print run of 100 to 300 copies.

30th anniversary

In 2011 PLOP celebrated its 30th anniversary, which makes it the oldest comic fanzine in Germany still to be published. On this occasion, the exhibition 30 Years of PLOP - Independent Comics and More took place from September 24th to October 9th, 2011 in the Renée Blume art space in Cologne-Ehrenfeld. In addition to a vernissage on the opening day, there was an exhibition with comics by the editors Heike Anacker, Andreas Alt and others, as well as readings, performances , a paper theater and a comics drawing workshop. Furthermore, a special issue 30 Years PLOP was created under the direction of Andreas Alt.

Some of those who work professionally in the comic field today had their first publication in PLOP, such as Stefan Dinter , Haggi , Walter Moers , Kim Schmidt or Dirk Tonn . Other comic artists known today with publications in PLOP are Andreas Alt, Oliver Ferreira , Matthias Langer, Mawil , Chris Noeth , Rattelschneck , Peter Schaaff , Wittek , or the graphic artist Heidi Koch among others.
