history
Founded in 1976 in Charlottesville , Virginia as the Anti-Inflammatory Drug Study Group, the company was renamed PRA International in 1982 and has been operating since u. a. grew strongly through takeovers of other companies. In 2012, PRA entered into a joint venture with the Chinese company WuXi Pharmatech in order to be able to offer a more extensive platform for services in China.
In 2013 the company was taken over by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. and merged with RPS Strategic solutions. This increased the number of employees to 10,000 in more than 80 countries worldwide.
2013 PRA was a breakthrough in the development of Sovaldi (sofosbuvir) for the treatment of hepatitis C involved. Sovaldi was approved by the FDA in 2013 and the EMA in 2014. The manufacturer is the pharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences . Studies involving PRA had shown that the use of Sovaldi resulted in higher cure rates and shorter therapy times in hepatitis C patients.
In Germany, PRA operates locations in Mannheim , Munich , Nuremberg and Berlin .
