PRP-3 Wal ( GRAY index: 1ЖЗ - product 767) is the abbreviation for a special version for a command staff vehicle (KSchM) of the missile troops and artillery for reconnaissance, identification and target assignment, which was used in the Soviet Army from 1970 to 1991. The Russian name is: p odwischnyi r aswetywatelnyi p unkt / mobile reconnaissance post. From 1984 the successor model PRP-4 Nard was added to the troops.

Development history

The decision to implement the armament project was made in accordance with the ruling of July 1, 1963. The BMP-1 armored personnel carrier was specified as the base vehicle . In 1970 the project became operational and was introduced into the field of missile troops and artillery of the Soviet land forces.

The tractor factory in Chelyabinsk (tank production division) was commissioned with series production.

Constructive features

Armor and turret

Since the vehicle is derived from the basic version of the BMP-1 combat vehicle, the same protection factors can be applied to the combat crew. A machine gun is installed in the tower structure and a launcher is located in the rear section .

Armament

The main armament is a 7.62 mm tank machine gun (PTK) with 1000 rounds of belt ammunition. In addition, there is a launcher of the type 2P130-1 for firing unguided reactive grenade rockets 9M41 (90 mm). The combat set includes 20 grenade missiles; the operational distance is 1000 to 3000 meters.

The vehicle had the following special equipment:

  • 1 × 1RL126 - mobile non-navigational location radio station for the reconnaissance of mobile terrestrial targets
