Lists on the subject

The PSL ( Romanian Pușcă semiautomată cu lunetă model 1974 , "Semi-automatic sniper rifle model 1974") is a Romanian sniper rifle in the 7.62 × 54 mm R caliber .

development

The PSL was developed in Romania in the 1970s as a domestic alternative to the Soviet Dragunov sniper rifle (SWD). The Romanian designers used the Kalashnikov weapon system manufactured under license in Romania and chose the IMG RPK as the basis for their sniper rifle. The cap was amplified and applied to the increased rifle cartridge 7.62 × 54 mm R adjusted. The case box was reinforced with two steel sheets and a special bar magazine with 10 cartridges was designed.

description

The PSL is a gas pressure self-loading rifle with a rotating head lock . The barrel and lock case in sheet metal stamping technology were taken over from the RPK and adapted to the 7,62 × 54 cartridge . The long return gas piston was taken directly from the RPK. A gas regulating device is missing. Similar to the SWD, it has a skeletonized solid plywood stock with a cheek pad. A rubber bottom cap cushions the recoil. The flash hider is provided with a bayonet mount. The PSL has a Romanian 4-way LPS-2 rifle scope that is a simplified copy of the Soviet PSO-1. The LPS-2 lacks, among other things, the battery-supported active lighting of the PSO-1. As with other weapons based on the Kalashnikov system, it is attached with a side dovetail mount. Like the SWD, the PSL has an open visor with a rear sight and front sight for emergencies.

Others

Due to the external similarity, the PSL is often confused with the Soviet SWD. Visually, it differs from this one by the transverse instead of longitudinally slotted flash hider, the two-part handguard and the other magazine with the characteristic X-shaped reinforcement. As with the AK, the PSL magazine is located directly in front of the trigger guard, while with the SWD there is a large gap between the trigger guard and the magazine. The magazines are not interchangeable. The PSL is a little heavier and less precise than the SWD.

variants

For export, the PSL is manufactured in the NATO caliber 7.62 × 51 mm and under various designations, such as B. Cugir SSG-97, also offered on the civilian market.

States of operations

In addition to the Romanian army , the PSL is used by the Afghan , Ethiopian and Iraqi armed forces as well as in Bangladesh , Moldova and Nicaragua .
