PT Industri Kereta Api , INKA for short , is a state-owned Indonesian manufacturer of rail vehicles for the domestic market as well as for export to Bangladesh , the Philippines , Malaysia , Thailand , Singapore , Australia and Zambia .

history

INKA was founded on May 18, 1981 in Madiun . The company is a successor to the steam locomotive workshops Balai Yasa Lokomotif Uap of Perusahaan Jawatan Kereta Api (today PT Kereta Api Indonesia). The workshops became a rail vehicle manufacturer since the mid-1970s, when steam locomotives were no longer used in Indonesia.

The following milestones testify to INKA's development from a railway car manufacturer to an export-oriented manufacturer of complete trains:

In the early 1980s, the first closed freight cars and passenger cars were produced for the domestic market. In 1987 INKA built the first electric multiple unit. Foreign business began in 1991 with the export of a freight wagon for KTMB in Malaysia. The first electric multiple unit VVVF was completed in 1994 and the first complete train for Argo Bromo Anggrek the following year . The first GE Lokindo electric locomotive was exported to the Philippines in 1996.

In 1997 the leasing business with Argo Bromo Orchid vehicles began. Further export markets were found in Thailand in 1998, where a ballast wagon was exported, and Indonesia, where the first electric rail bus based on the INKA design was delivered. The construction of special vehicles began in 2002 with the export of a power station car and bogie flat car to Malaysia and in 2004 the export of a container car and a so-called Blizzard Center to Australia. A major order for 50 railroad cars for Bangladesh heralded series production in 2006.

In 2007, the conclusion of contracts for a diesel multiple unit for Aceh and a rail bus for Palembang were important milestones in international business, followed in 2008 by the first diesel multiple unit for Aceh and Java in Indonesia ( Kereta Rel Diesel Indonesia ). In 2010, an economy class train and 20 GE C20EMPs were manufactured in collaboration with GE Transportation . The "Bathara Kresna" rail bus from 2011 was followed in 2014 by Economy Class trains for "Jayabaya" and "Joko Tingkir". A major order was realized in 2016 for the export of the first 15 of 150 passenger cars for US $ 72.3 million to Bangladesh.
