Paavo Tiilikainen

Paavo Tiilikainen Herman (* 12. July 1923 in Ruokolahti ; † 15. April 2007 in Imatra ) was a Finnish politician of the Social Democratic Party of Finland SDP (Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue) , among others, from 1973 to 1975 chairman of the SDP faction in the Reichstag and was Minister of the Interior of Finland between 1975 and 1976 .

Life

Tiilikainen, son of the sawmill worker Toivo Tiilikainen and his wife Rosa Hoffren, attended elementary school and then worked in a sawmill between 1944 and 1956, first in his birthplace Ruokolahti and then in Imatra. In the late 1940s he began his political career in local politics and represented the Social Democratic Party of Finland SDP (Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue) between 1948 and 1950 and again from 1954 to 1950 as a member of the Imatra municipal council. There he was deputy chairman of the tax committee between 1954 and 1974. From 1956 to 1968 he worked for the Social Insurance Institution in Imatra.

In the parliamentary elections on March 15 and 16, 1970 Tiilikainen was elected for the first time as a member of the Reichstag for the SDP and represented the constituency of Kymi until March 23, 1979 . During his parliamentary membership he served as a member of the Social Security Committee between 1970 and 1976. In addition, he was a member of the Imatra municipal board from 1971 to 1979 and a member of the board of directors of the Psychiatric Hospital in Joutseno from 1972 to 1976 . In 1973 he took over the position of chairman of the SDP parliamentary group in the Reichstag as the successor to KF Haapasalo and held this until 1975, after which he was replaced by Matti Ahde . In 1973 he also acted as chairman of a committee to review municipal funding.

On November 30, 1975 Tiilikainen was appointed Minister of the Interior of Finland (Sisäasiainministeri) to the Miettunen II cabinet and was a member of this until September 28, 1976. After leaving the government, from 1977 to 1983 he was a manager at the woodworking company Enso-Gutzeit in Imatra and chairman of the electoral committee for the presidential election in Finland in 1978 . He was also Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tiurun Hospital in Lappeenranta between 1979 and 1986 . From his marriage to Immi Marjatta Pesonen in 1946, the children Eila and Pekka emerged.
