Flower detail

Pachyphytum oviferum is a species of plant from the genus Pachyphytum in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae). The specific epithet oviferum means "egg-bearing" (Latin ovi "egg" and ferum "bearing").

description

The young shoots of Pachyphytum oviferum are upright at first and later prostrate to drooping. They are up to 20 cm long and reach a diameter of 0.7 to 1.3 cm. The rosettes consist of 12 to 25 densely packed, bluish-glaucous to lavender-colored leaves and are 6 to 10 cm in diameter. The obovate to elliptical obovate, rounded and up to 17 mm thick leaves are 3 to 5 cm long and 1.8 to 3 cm wide.

The pale green or reddish inflorescence becomes 3 to 12 cm long and forms 3 to 8 sterile bracts at the upper end . 7 to 15 flowers appear on the top 3 to 7 cm. The overlapping, elliptically obovate, fertile bracts are greenish white in color and are 12 to 18 mm long and 8 to 15 mm wide. The flower stalk, which is strongly thickened towards the tip, becomes 2 to 5 mm long. The 13 to 23 mm long calyx reaches a diameter of 10 to 16 mm and bears uneven sepals that are 6 to 20 mm long and 2 to 12 mm wide. The corolla reaches a diameter of 10 to 13 mm at the tip and is colored white on the inside. It is formed by the elongated, 7 to 10 mm long and 3 to 4.5 mm wide petals . The upright tips of the flower tube rise towards the end of the flowering period from the center and are provided with a rounded, dark purple-red spot. 4.5 to 6 mm above the corolla base there are 0.5 to 1.5 mm large scales on the petals. The yellowish white stamens in front of the petals are 2 to 3 mm long and fused with the petals and are 5.5 to 7.5 mm long. The yellowish nectar flakes are 1.8 to 2.2 mm wide. The free-standing, yellowish green carpels are 4 to 6 mm long and 1.75 to 2.2 mm wide and have a stylus that is 1 to 1.25 mm long.
