Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) is a Pakistani petroleum company headquartered in Karachi , Sindh .

The oldest and largest exploration and production company for oil in the country was founded on June 5, 1950, after the government had introduced new regulations the year before with the Pakistan Petroleum Production Rules , according to which only companies authorized in Pakistan were allowed to extract oil. The British Burmah Oil Company then spun off all the shares in the country to Pakistan Petroleum Limited, in which the government initially held a 30 percent stake. Business started on July 1, 1953.
