history

Habib Bank was initiated in 1941 by Pakistan's founding father Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Bombay . He was able to win the influential Habib family to get involved in the industry, which hoped that the All-India Muslim League would give them a better political influence for the Muslims in the country. After the British occupation had withdrawn, the bank processed aid to compensate the victims.

When Pakistan was founded in 1947, the company's headquarters were relocated to Karachi, becoming Pakistan's first banking house. The first foreign branches were founded in Sri Lanka in 1951, the first branches to Europe were opened in Great Britain in 1961, and 10 years later to New York . There has also been a branch in China since 2009 , after a framework agreement had previously been concluded with Urumqi Commercial Bank .

The bank came under international criticism in 2004 because it was accused of indirectly supporting terrorism through illegal cash payments .

In September 2017, the New York Department of Financial Services fined Habib Bank $ 225 million for continued money laundering and terrorist financing.
