The PalaIlio Stadium in Trapani is a sports arena that was put into operation in 1994 and is mainly used for basketball competitions. It belongs to the municipality of Trapani and was built in the course of the southern expansion of the city center together with the new swimming stadium in the area of the former harbor basin. To the east of the hall is the Piazzale Papa Giovanni Paolo II bus station .

Building

The round reinforced concrete building was designed and realized by Antonio Rizzo and the architect Manfredi Nicoletti . Both had previously worked together for the Indoor Stadium in Palermo and the Scientific Greenhouse for Tropical Butterflies at the University of Catania .

During the last renovation in 2009, a new hall floor was installed and the number of spectator seats was reduced from the original 5500 to 5000 - including 4575 seats - for safety reasons. The external dimensions of the building envelope are approx. 75 m, inside there is a usable area of 24 × 44 m. The lightweight roof is held in place by twelve steel girders with steel cables. The flat roof is crowned by a light band.

The hall is easily accessible due to the walking distance to the city center, the nearby bus station and the generous open spaces for parking spaces.

use

The arena is home to the second division team Pallacanestro Trapani . Basketball games take place regularly in the hall, but other sports competitions have also been held here. The hall is also used for music and show events. Zucchero , Claudio Baglioni and Biagio Antonacci have already performed here .
