The Palacio de los Marqueses de Alcántara is a palace in Soria , the capital of the province of Soria in the autonomous region of Castile and León , built in the 17th century. The palace in Calle Caballeros and up to Calle Núñez has been a protected architectural monument ( Bien de Interés Cultural ) since 1949 .

History and description

The baroque palace was built for the Condes de Fuerteventura y Marqueses de Velamazán , who later received the title Marqueses de Alcántara . The two-storey building has a corner tower with a pointed hood and a splendid portal with studs . The coat of arms of the Marqueses de Alcántara is located above the portal.

The story El rayo de luna (published in 1862), written by Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer , takes place in the palace .
