Colloredo-Mansfeld Palace
The Palais Colloredo-Mansfeld is a Ringstrasse palace in Vienna's 1st district, Inner City, at Zedlitzgasse 8, at the corner of Parkring 6.
history
The palace, which is free-standing on three sides and lined with Parkring, Zedlitzgasse and Cobdengasse , borders on the fourth, south-western side of the Archduke Wilhelm's palace . It was built in 1865 by Johann Romano von Rings and August Schwendenwein von Lanauberg for the dynasty Colloredo-Mansfeld in a strictly historical style in the form of the Viennese Neo-Renaissance. From 1937 to 1938 the license-free cabaret, Die Insel, was located here .
description
The facades in Zedlitzgasse and on Parkring are almost identical apart from the portal area. A three-storey upper zone rises above a square base zone with a basement window with beautiful wrought iron bars and windows framed with wedge stones. The wide cornice leading to the bel étage is interrupted on both sides by a balcony that is supported by volute brackets and extends over three window axes. The windows with a continuous cornice support a straight console roof, while the windows on the floor above are equipped with a segmented gable roof. The portal zone in Zedlitzgasse has a pilaster structure with an arched entrance portal and a beautiful wooden gate, while the portal zone to the parking ring has been converted into a bank entrance area.
