Peter Dornier

Peter Dornier (born January 31, 1917 in Friedrichshafen ; † January 28, 2002 in Lindau (Bodensee) ) was the second son of the aircraft designer Claude Dornier and joined the Dornier-Werke des in 1944 after studying at the Technical University of Munich as an aircraft designer Father's one. Subsequently, he played a key role in building up the German aircraft industry. Among other things, he invented and developed the Do 335 propeller aircraft and the Do 31 vertical take-off jet transport aircraft . For the Do 335 he was awarded the Lilienthal Aviation Society Prize in 1944.

After the Second World War he founded his own engineering office and developed a steel frame prefabricated house . From 1950 Peter Dornier devoted himself to the development of Lindauer DORNIER GmbH and in 1985, on the occasion of the majority stake of Daimler-Benz AG in the Dornier group of companies, took over all shares in Lindauer DORNIER GmbH, which he also managed until 1999.

In 1986 he founded the non-profit "Peter Dornier Foundation", which is committed to promoting science and technology. He was a sponsor and honorary senator of the University of Heidelberg .
