Frank Bannert (2009)

Frank Bannert (born October 30, 1956 in Neumark ; † July 10, 2019 ) was a German local politician ( FDP , CDU ) and from July 1, 2007 until his death, District Administrator of the Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt .

Career

Before he moved to the Merseburg-Querfurt district administration after the fall of the Berlin Wall , Bannert was a teacher of English and music in Braunsbedra until 1990 after studying at the Institute for Teacher Training in Weißenfels . From 1990 to 1995 he was a member of the FDP. In 1995 he joined the CDU and in 2001 became chairman of the CDU district association Merseburg-Querfurt (from 2006 also the district association Saalekreis). From 2001 to 2007 he was 1st alderman of the Merseburg-Querfurt district and responsible for youth, education, finance, culture and social affairs.

In the election of the district administrator of the Saalekreis district, which was newly created in the course of the second district reform on July 1, 2007, he prevailed on May 4, 2007 in a runoff election with 50.5 percent of the votes against his competitor Steffen Eichner ( SPD ), who Reached 49.5 percent of the vote. Seven years later he got 59.1 percent of the vote in the runoff election on June 15, 2014, his competitor Kerstin Eisenreich ( Die Linke ) 40.9 percent. After his death, his deputy Hartmut Handschak was elected Bannert's successor on September 29, 2019.

Life

Frank Bannert was married and had two sons. He died on July 10, 2019 a cancer that it prevented him from starting at the beginning of 2017 to exercise his duties.
