The Palais Pock

The Palais Pock (formerly Hotel Kaiserkrone ) is a recognized building in Bolzano . It is located in Mustergasse at Musterplatz and has been a listed building since 1952. It was built in 1759 and has four floors and two wings.

In the 18th century there were only small inns in the trade and trade fair city of Bolzano without any particular comfort. To remedy this, the merchant Franz Anton Pock (ennobled to "von Pock") built this elegant hotel in 1759 by renovating the former Bolzano office of the Lords of Liechtenstein in a representative form. A few weeks after completion, the Roman-German Emperor Joseph II visited the house. In the Hotel Kaiserkrone, Pope Pius VI. (1782) and the Austrian Emperors Franz I (1820) and Franz Joseph (1905) stayed overnight. Commemorative plaques on the facade remind of this. The memorial plaque for Emperor Franz Joseph was smashed by the fascists in 1921.

In 1805 a theater was built in the rear part of the palace, where there was previously a garden . The construction took place at the instigation of some wealthy families from the city. The auditorium was divided into a ground floor, two rows of boxes one above the other and a gallery that offered a total of more than 600 seats. On the ground floor there were 120 seats and just as many standing places, a further 100 places, which were distributed over 25 boxes in two rows one above the other, and at least 250 standing places in the gallery. In the course of its existence there have been 69 seasons with drama, opera, ballet, operetta and musical works.

The hotel was closed after the First World War . Since 1928 the Palais Pock has been mainly used as an office complex, with a restaurant on the ground floor.
