Potocki Palace, Lviv

The Potocki Palace ( Ukrainian палац Потоцьких , Polish pałac Potockich we Lwowie ) in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv (German: Lemberg) is a three-storey palace on Ulica Kopernika No. 15.

It was built in the 1880s as the seat of the town for the noble Potocki family. No expense was spared to make it the largest aristocratic residence in town.

The French architect Louis Dauvergne worked out all kinds of stylistic Beaux-Arts details for an almost exaggerated imitation of a French hôtel particulier . An open park landscape was designed to give the manor an impression of depth.

At the turn of the century, the park made way for a number of residential buildings. The palace itself was adapted to hold wedding receptions in 1972 and gradually restored.

In the 2000s, the President of Ukraine made the palace one of his residences. Some of its architectural details were also used in the neighboring exhibition hall, which was inaugurated in 1996.

Other Potocki palaces in Ukraine are in Tultschyn and Odessa . In Poland there are those in Krzeszowice , Międzyrzec Podlaski , Natolin and Warsaw .
