Sternberg Palace
The Sternberg Palace is a palace in the 3rd Vienna district road at the Ungargasse set back 43. From the street, it is the only surviving palace in the Ungargasse.
history
The Palais Sternberg was built as a classic suburban palace from 1820 to 1821 and the design is attributed to the Parisian architect Charles de Moreau . The master builder was Karl Ehmann . In 1870 the aristocratic Bohemian Sternberg family acquired the palace and gave it its current name and the star in the “speaking” coat of arms on the main facade.
In the 1930s, the Palais Sternberg became the property of the Italian state . Today it houses the Italian Consulate and the Italian Cultural Institute .
