Palais Widmann in Bolzano

The Palais Widmann , also known as Landhaus 1 , in the South Tyrolean capital Bozen is the seat of the South Tyrolean provincial government . It is located on Silvius-Magnago -Platz next to the state parliament building and has been a listed building since 1989.

The Palais Widmann was built from 1882 to 1885 on what was then Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Straße (today's Laurinstraße) according to plans by the Bozen city architect Sebastian Altmann for the noble family von Widmann-Staffelfeld zu Ulmburg. Altmann used the historicist style inventory of the neo-renaissance and based himself on the Viennese Ringstrasse style . In 1899, master builder Johann Bittner added the street-side balcony on the west side of the palace. In 1929 the building was extended to the east as the seat of the prefecture at that time. After the Second World War , during which the building was badly damaged by bombs in September 1943, the South Tyrolean provincial government moved into the building in 1955. In 2015 the entrance area was modernized.
