Palais des Beaux Arts (Vienna)
The Palais des Beaux Arts is a residential and office building in the 3rd Vienna district highway , Löwengasse 47-47A. The Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania and the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova have been located in this building since 1994 .
The house was built in 1908/09 by Anton and Josef Drexler , of whom some houses on the Rudolf-von-Alt-Platz, which was built shortly thereafter, and other buildings in the Weißgerberviertel also date from roughly the same time.
The building was originally intended for a Chic Parisien fashion center . It therefore combines elements of late historicism with decorative motifs from Western European Art Nouveau in an original way .
Friedrich Achleitner praises this building for the fact that, in contrast to its almost baroque wealth of decorations, it has a rational floor plan that allows optimum flexibility.
The building is dominated by the articulated corner tower, which is flanked by female figures holding globes.
Inside the house there is a richly furnished vestibule with floral stucco and reliefs of female figures in the stairwell.
Since 2014 there has been a changing exhibition program in the house. The art projects are broadcast over a wireless network in and around the Palais des Beaux Arts and are accessible to everyone via smartphone and tablet.
