The Palawan Zwergohreule ( Otus fuliginosus ) is an owl from the genus of scops owl .

description

The very small owl becomes 19 to 20 centimeters long. The plumage is deep brown with scribbles and spots, darker brown on the crown and neck band. The outer flags of the shoulder feathers form a striking white band. The underside is reddish brown with arrow-shaped blackish lines. The whitish eyebrows stand out on the dark face. The eyes are pale orange-brown, the feather ears are short, the beak is light brownish. The legs are feathered up to the base of the yellowish gray toes, the claws are dark horn-colored.

Way of life

It inhabits tropical lowland forest and secondary woodland , including plantations with trees. The food is mainly made up of insects. The voice is a snoring, two-syllable krarr-kruarr that is repeated every four to five seconds.

distribution

The species is endemic to the Philippine island of Palawan . It is rare and is considered endangered according to BirdLife International .
