Palazzo Civran

Palazzo Civran is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere on the left side of the Grand Canal , just before the Fontego dei Tedeschi , between the Campiello del Remer and the Casa Perducci .

history

The property of this palace belonged to the Civran family from the end of the 14th century. The palace shows different architectural styles through the renovations over the years. Today the Palazzo Civran belongs to the Republic of Italy and is used by the Guardia di Finanza , which can already be seen from the colors of the palines (pontoons).

description

The palace was built in the 14th century, but its current shape resulted from the last major restoration in the first half of the 17th century, when the palazzo adopted the late Renaissance style . The ground floor is made of bushes with a portal to the water in the middle, the arch of which has a keystone in the shape of a human head. The mezzanine floor has four window openings that are unusually high and have metal railings.

The main floor shows a single window in the middle, resembling the portal to the water in shape, flanked by two pairs of individual windows, all united behind a balcony. On the second floor, which is less high than the first, there are five identical single windows in the same lines as those on the first floor, provided with single balconies. All windows on the first and second floors - with the exception of the middle one on the first floor - are crowned by triangular tympanums .
