Palazzo Comitini

The Palazzo Comitini , also Palazzo Gravina di Comitini is a palace in Palermo .

Between 1766 and 1781 the Trapani architect Nicolò Palma built a representative city palace in Via Maqueda on behalf of Principe Gravina di Comitini, the interiors of which were largely still decorated in the Rococo style.

Two round portals framed by columns divide the façade into three parts, each with three windows. The former three-storey building was increased by one storey in 1931 by the architect Mario Umiltà.

The representation rooms and ballrooms are located on the third floor, which is also reflected in the design of the facade: each window has a wrought-iron balcony, which stands on a baroque curved base supported by agraffes .

The stucco garlands above the windows are covered by triangular and segmented gables that extend far out .

Inside, despite the numerous renovations and extensions in the 19th and 20th centuries, some rooms have been preserved in their original state, such as the Green Hall (Sala Verde), which still has the original 18th century chandeliers from Murano and the Sala Martorana , which Gioacchino Martorana decorated in 1770 with the famous ceiling fresco “Triumph of True Love”.
