Robert Hetkämper
Robert Hetkämper (born August 9, 1949 in Gladbeck ) is a German journalist . From 2001 to August 2014 he was the director of the ARD studio in Singapore .
biography
Robert Hetkämper was born in Gladbeck in Westphalia in 1949 and grew up in the Ruhr area. After graduating from a natural science grammar school in Herten , he studied German , sociology and political science at the Free University of Berlin and Saarland University .
He started his journalistic career at a young age and worked for the Saarland broadcasting company and the Bavarian broadcasting company , among others .
In 1988 he became East Asia - correspondent and head of ARD Studios Tokyo . In addition to Japan , his reporting area also included the Philippines , North Korea , South Korea , Taiwan and the various island states of the Pacific . He held this position until 1992 before he switched to North German Broadcasting in Hamburg for three years . In 1995 he returned to Tokyo for another three years. From 1999 to 2001 he worked for ARD as a senior correspondent in Studio Washington before moving back to Asia.
From 2001 to August 2014 Robert Hetkämper was head of the ARD studio in Singapore. The reporting area includes Myanmar , Thailand , Laos , Cambodia , Vietnam , Malaysia , Singapore , the Philippines, Indonesia , Brunei , Papua New Guinea , Australia and New Zealand .
In August 2014 Robert Hetkämper reached the retirement age of 65 and retired. In the ARD series Weltreisen on July 5, 2014, under the title Faces of Asia - On the Road with Robert Hetkämper , he looked back on around 20 years as ARD's Asia correspondent.
