history
The Garzoni family , originally from Bologna , moved to Venice at the end of the 13th century and were accepted into the Venetian nobility a century later. They were registered in the Maggior Consiglio (Venetian Parliament) in 1381 . In the 17th century they bought the property that was to be known by their name from now on. Today the palace belongs to the Università Ca 'Foscari di Venezia , which has housed the Faculty of Languages there.
description
It is a Gothic palace from the 15th century that has been fundamentally changed from its original state over the years. On the ground floor, a round arch portal with a protome on the keystone opens to the water. Above it are two main floors, very similar to one another , with four pointed arched windows in the middle and two pairs of single windows on the sides, all provided with balusters , protruding from the quadruple windows. The mezzanine floor under the roof continues the pattern of the facade, in the middle you can also see a pair of putti holding up an empty sign that once carried the family's coat of arms.
